Mindfulness is the practice of living in the moment, rather than being stuck in the past or anxious about the future.
Originating from Buddhist and Hindu teachings, this practice spread in the West as the result of Westerners who studied under Buddhist teachers and inspired others in broad fashion.
While meditation is a popular form of mindfulness, one can implement mindfulness during a walk, cleaning around the house, when eating, and other daily activities.
By focusing on the present, we can learn to accept our feelings and thoughts without becoming trapped in a vicious cycle of rumination.
According to Psychology Today, the two key ingredients of mindfulness are awareness and acceptance.
