Doug Fogelson
Co-founder of the Sierra Club John Muir championed the preservation of forests in the western United States and campaigned to make Yosemite a national park. His activism and writings place him in the canon of ecological thinkers and political spokespeople commenting on equality for all people and seeing nature as “home.” Muir was religious and wrote on “natural theology,” where great teachings come from the “presence of the divine in nature.”
