Locating “modern” humans in the continuum that began in the Paleolithic era, Paul Shepard wrote many books on themes around evolutionary theory and nature-based peoples. Hunting and gathering societies dependent on nature for sustenance are also tied to the same for “emotional and psychological growth and development.” Nature and Madness is a key book title from Shepard’s published works, as is a later work called Coming Home to the Pleistocene.
