Exercise is vital to maintaining both physical and mental health. The kind of exercise one utilizes depends ‌on your goals, whether it is to lose or maintain weight, improve athleticism, develop muscle, or simply have fun and blow off some steam. Many exercise practices can be enjoyed outdoors and combined with benefits from experiencing or connecting to the natural environment itself (even in inclement weather if one has the right gear for it). Some exercise routines may even be combined with a daily commute, thereby reducing the amount of carbon emissions due to transport.

With that said, exercises can be grouped into 3 main types: aerobic, which improves cardiovascular health; anaerobic or strength and resistance training; and flexibility, which stretches muscles. Activities as varied as swimming, walking, cycling, weightlifting, yoga, Pilates, and more have benefits for the body as well as the mind. For a low-impact activity that gets your body moving, try the 20-minute “Step to the Beat” workout linked below, or search online for a video that suits your needs and interests!
