One Year for Earth/1y4e supports critical reforestation campaigns in the United States and in the Global South. As users complete their one-year sustainability Journey, they earn points which are then converted into donations to reforestation projects through certified partner organizations, including the Delta Institute and One Tree Planted. Each tree planted contributes to restoring degraded ecosystems, protecting native biodiversity, and combating the effects of climate change.
Forests are vital carbon sinks, absorbing large amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and helping to mitigate the effects of climate change. Deforestation, the purposeful clearing of forested land, is a global crisis causing severe threats to our planet. The consequences of deforestation are wide-ranging and include the loss of biodiversity, reduced carbon sequestration, and disruptions to the water cycle.
At One Year for Earth, we believe in the power of education, advocacy, and community to address the urgent challenges of climate change. Through our website and the 1y4e Journey, users cultivate a sustainability-focused mindset and explore the various ways they can get into action.
As users progress through the 1y4e Journey, they complete weekly challenges to earn points. At the end of the year, all points earned are converted into actual trees planted on the user’s behalf by our vetted partners.

The maximum total points available is 5300, which equates to 5.3 trees. Every tree planted sequesters 22 lbs of carbon dioxide each year during the first 20 years of their lifetime. Therefore, each 1y4e participant is directly helping reforestation efforts as a direct impact incentive. Equally important, they’re learning to utilize our methodology and resources to engage with other meaningful actions that can be applied over the years to come!
Donations to the One Year for Earth/1y4e Support and Reforestation Fund are applied to support both our operations and tree planting efforts. In supporting our program, you play a crucial role in restoring degraded ecosystems, while also supporting our mission to help everyone utilize sustainable solutions and build resilient communities.
