Patricia Johanson was a pioneer of eco-art. She created large-scale public art installations, such as parks and trails, which connect humans with the natural world. Her first built project was a restoration of Fair Park’s Leonhardt Lagoon in Dallas, Texas, where she used sculptural forms to solve the problem of an eroding shoreline (pictured above). In this and her later works, Johanson was able to solve environmental problems without compromising aesthetics, instead finding the overlap between human and animal needs.
