Mia Mottley is the eighth prime minister of Barbados, the leader of the Barbados Labour Party, and the first woman to hold either of those positions. As of 2025, she is the longest-serving current female state leader.

Mottley is a global leader in the fight against climate change and has been outspoken on issues related to environmental justice and climate colonialism. She has seen firsthand how small countries in the Global South, such as her own, bear the brunt of climate change while contributing little to pollution. Meanwhile, larger and richer countries contribute more to pollution but experience fewer impacts, only furthering existing disparities.
