Marina Silva’s environmental career began as an anti-deforestation protester in her home community of Brazilian rubber tappers. There, she worked in collaboration with Chico Mendes to mobilize her community against deforestation, and even continued to advocate for reserves after Mendes’ assassination.

Since then, Silva has become a leading global voice on climate change and environmental issues. She currently serves as the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, and she previously founded Sustainability Network, an environmentalist political party in Brazil. She has fought for environmental conservation, social justice, and sustainable development.
