Brian Schatz is the senior United States Senator from Hawai’i and a national leader in climate policy. Prior to his time in the Senate, Schatz served in the Hawai’i State House of Representatives and as the state’s lieutenant governor. In 2012, he was appointed to the U.S. Senate, and has since become a leading voice on climate change.

Schatz chaired the Senate Democrats’ Special Committee on the Climate Crisis, which produced a 2020 report that laid the groundwork for the Inflation Reduction Act, which is widely regarded as one of the largest climate actions in human history. He is also known for supporting renewable energy initiatives, protecting Hawai’i’s native species, and securing significant funding for climate resilience programs and disaster recovery efforts.
