Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the US representative for New York’s 14th congressional district, which includes parts of the Bronx and Queens. She is the youngest woman ever elected to Congress.

Ocasio-Cortez is a leader in climate legislation. In 2019, she and Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts introduced a joint resolution outlining a broad vision for an American Green New Deal. This plan included a shift to 100% clean energy sources, bringing carbon emissions to net zero, and massive public investment in sustainable technologies. While the resolution was ultimately not adopted, Ocasio-Cortez’s efforts had a significant impact on public discourse, and brought GND policies into contemporary policy discussions.
